The General Legal Council deeply regrets the recent passing of Dr Adolph Edwards.
On Saturday February 15 2025, we celebrate his life of service at the Hope United Church at 10:00am.
Dr. Edwards was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1964 after being recognised as an outstanding student of the law. He was thereafter admitted to practice in Jamaica in 1967.
Not being satisfied with merely attaining the foundation requirements to practice law at that time, he pursued and succeeded in obtaining from the University of London in 1968, a doctorate, with his thesis focussing on the development of the criminal law of Jamaica.
He gave unstintingly of his time to the General Legal Council as well as its Disciplinary Committee where he was one of the initial members, and served for over 45 years!
He was also an invaluable member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the General Legal Council and presented many outstanding seminars in that programme.
Dr Edwards was, for his entire professional life, a committed member of the Jamaican Bar which recognised his worth as a stalwart and raised him to its highest place of honour in 2021.
The General Legal Council extends its sincerest condolences to his wife and family.
